Bagwell and the bad shoulder

It has been more than a year since jeff Bagwell graced us with his precense on thefield with The Houston Astros. His shoulder has caused him much trouble and pain, both on and off the field, for the past four years. Well yesterday it was made official. Something we have all known for wuite some time but never wanted to truly admit. Jeff Bagwell's playing career is over. After 16 years with The Astros Bagwell holds the record for being the best hitter in the clubs 45 year history. Bagwell may not be on the field but he will still be involved with the organization. He will be a part of the Astros operations staff doing a little bit of everything from instructing to evaluating and, with years of experience, a key assistant to General Manager Tim Purpura who states about Bagwell, "As a GM I am greedy and want the best people around me giving me advice. Someone who has been in the game recently and not only knows the players but thier personalities as well. It's great to have someone with Jeff's experience there to help me evaluate players as well as give them advice on improvment."
